Weingut Tement
Südsteiermark, Austria
Rest and relaxation are yours in abundance at the gaggle of winemakers’ chalets split across the vineyards of the Tement family’s estate in Styria, southern Austria, established in 1959. Pools and even a sauna are set amongst the vines, with charmingly traditional interiors contrasting the slick glass lines of the modern winery, nestled into a plateau on the steep slopes of the prized Zieregg vineyard, on the site of an ancient coral reef. It affords panoramic views across the region and over the border into Slovenia, where the family also grows grapes, and tastings can be capped off either at the Magnothek wine vaults (where a library of vintages is stored in a former Carmelite chapel) or local favourite, Weinbank, in the nearby town of Ehrenhausen, where both fine dining and tavern fare are paired with the fully organic and biodynamic wines.
