Veuve Clicquot
Champagne, France
- #81 World's Best Vineyards 2024
Named after the formidable widow who steered it to international fame in the nineteenth century, Veuve Cliquot is one of the oldest Champagne houses – and the most recognizable, thanks to its bright yellow labels. The first single-vintage Champagne ever recorded was made at the house, established in 1772, along with the first blended rosé fizz of the region, and you can discover its lavish history down in the cellars, dug into former Gallo-Roman chalk pits. Tastings and tours are interactive and multisensory (expect blind-tastings and winemaking workshops, the ‘Aromatically Yours’ experience getting you to smell the perfumed gardens before tasting the wines alongside cheese). Summer brings gourmet picnics in the grounds of the manor house, whilst vineyards can be explored by bike or foot.
