E.Guigal
Rhône, France
The Château d’Ampuis is a splendid sight on the banks of the Rhône River, a Renaissance palace built out of a twelfth century fortress and fully renovated by the winemaking Guigal family, who acquired it in 1995. It is now officially a French National Monument as well as the centre of the E. Guigal estate, founded in 1946 and most widely known for its impeccable Côte Rôtie wines; this ‘roasted slope’ is home to legendarily steep vineyards dating back to Roman times that must be seen to be believed. Tours take you into the ancient cellars of this exalted Rhône producer.
