Never have appointments been quite so exclusive as at this famed Barbaresco winery, founded in 1859 and now run by the fifth generation of the Gaja family. The gates were opened up to the public in 2014 but you’ll only enter into these romantic courtyards after a sizeable donation to charity. It’s a worthy investment for a fully personalized tour of some of the estate’s 101 hectares of vineyards, and cellar, with a tasting selection particularly chosen for you by the family. If you’re lucky, their dog will accompany you too.
