Tenuta San Leonardo
Trentino, Italy
The weight of history is palpable at the San Leonardo estate, from its twelfth century monastic origins (the frescos of the monks’ original church can still be seen in the surrounding hamlet) to the Liberty style villa owned by the same family for 300 years (which hosted the armistice negotiations between Italy and Austria-Hungary at the end of the First World War), to the museum whose vintage tractor collection dates back to the early twentieth century (they still work!). A two-hour tour also incorporates the rose and herb garden and the picturesque vineyards, which are surrounded by woodland on the banks of the Adige river, the Dolomites looming in the background. After witnessing the wines aging down in the ultra-modern barrel cellar, you’ll try five of them, and won’t forget your experience for a long time.
