This vinous Ferrari bears no relation to the car brand (though, confusingly, is now the official fizz of F1), but nonetheless embodies sumptuous Italianate style: the family’s sixteenth century Villa Margon, covered in frescoes and nestled in the Alps, is the pinnacle of a day spent touring the nearby cellars and vineyards, and taking one of five guided tasting options. A further cherry is placed on top by Michelin-starred Locanda Margon, the super slick fine dining restaurant where you can pair the wines with one of three contemporary tasting menus, or go for something more casual in its Bistro, looking out onto gardens and the surrounding hillside. Founded in 1902, this family estate proves that there is so much more to Italian sparkling wine than Prosecco alone, and was instrumental in the creation of Trento DOC as a formal wine region for sparklings made using the traditional method with grapes from its mountainous terrain.
