Atibaia
Northern Lebanon, Lebanon
Only an hour from the Lebanese capital Beirut, the ancient village of Smar Jbeil is home to the ruins of Roman temples and a particularly scenic Phoenician citadel, which affords views out to the Mediterranean Sea (where the nearby coastal town of Batroun is a popular holiday spot). Back inland, and shielded on the other side by mountains covered in Lebanon’s famous cedar forests, is the boutique winery of Atibaia. Founded in 2007 with one hectare of land surrounding its seventeenth century house, it has grown to incorporate three vineyards but keeps production of its predominantly red wines deliberately low to ensure quality. Schedule an appointment as a means of getting up close and personal with this rich land.
