Rippon
Central Otago, New Zealand
- #54 World's Best Vineyard 2024
The commanding scenery of Lake Wanaka is matched by the high-octane activities that this small town offers: stand-up paddle boarding, jetboating, sky diving, and scaling a 700 metre waterfall by way of the world’s highest via ferrata. You’d be forgiven for needing a drink afterwards so walk the Millenium track along the water to Rippon, a family-run organic and biodynamic winery that led the way for Central Otago’s wines in the 1980s. Tastings are complimentary but must be booked, introducing you to a concise series of single varietal bottlings each conveying its own character. Watch out for seasonal events like pop-up restaurants, jazz and classical music concerts, and the annual cèilidh.
