Ata Rangi
Martinborough, New Zealand
- #85 World's Best Vineyard 2024
Translating as “new beginning,” this boutique organic estate was founded in 1980 by a dairy farmer who has so successfully turned his hand to grape growing (with the help of his wife and sister) that the Ata Rangi vineyards have been awarded New Zealand Grand Cru status (otherwise known as ‘Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoe’). Visitors are received into the tiny wooden cabin that formed the original winery, producing some of the region’s first Pinot Noirs – now the most highly regarded. Tours induct you into the farming practices and philosophy that has seen the family plant some 75,000 trees in pursuit of sustainability, before a seated tasting session.
