Sleek black labels match the sleek black barn at the centre of this fully organic and biodynamic estate, founded in 1993 and now run by a husband-and-wife team. The restaurant’s minimalist windows frame the hilly terrain beyond, expanding out to the Southern Alps, and food is proudly local. At the other end of the building a B&B offers quiet nights and action-packed days (as a stop on the Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail, mountain bikes are provided) whilst next door, at the Netherwood vineyard, pre-booked appointments yield lessons in the estate’s sustainable farming philosophy, tours of the modern winery and guided tasting sessions.
