The warming effect of the Black Sea on an otherwise bleak climate is used to great effect at one of Russia’s most exciting wineries, founded in 2012. Guests to Sikory explore the hills and forests of the Semigorye Valley followed by impressive terraced vineyards growing the indigenous Krasnostop Zolotovsky grape (deeply coloured and tannic, it is used for sweet and dry wines), a carp pond providing a photo opportunity on the way. Inside the lustrous gravitational winery, you’re free to see and touch glass-lidded French oak barrels and concrete spheres aging the liquids before tasting them in a glass-bottomed circular room overlooking the valley.
