Ridge Vineyards – Monte Bello
Santa Cruz Mountains, US
Some of the oldest vines in the USA can be found 800 metres high on the hills of the rugged Santa Cruz Mountains, at Ridge, one of the reigning New World wineries to have beaten Bordeaux and Burgundy estates in the historic ‘Judgment of Paris’ blind tasting of 1976. Just south of San Francisco, a sun-soaked garden terrace overlooking Silicon Valley and vines first planted in the late nineteenth century hosts intimate tastings including the ‘Monte Bello Private Library’ option, where you’ll sample current vintages alongside a back catalogue of these exemplary single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, Zinfandels and Chardonnays. Bookings are essential.
