Every year since 1945, the Rothschild family has commissioned an artist to create a label for bottles of its new vintage. From Picasso, Dalí, Miró and Bacon to Lucian Freud, Jeff Koons, David Hockney, Anish Kapoor and even the Prince of Wales, these works can be viewed in a permanent exhibition at this Pauillac estate, which joined Bordeaux’s highest ranks with its elevation to First Growth status in 1973 under legendary owner, Baron Philippe de Rothschild. His three grandchildren now preside over a fully modernised gravitational winery, which you can view along with the Museum of Art in Wine to celebrate vinous creativity across the ages.
