Shining bright in the Stellenbosch hillside is British jeweler Laurence Graff OBE’s vinous retreat. Botanical gardens hide luxury lodges with private plunge pools, and the owner’s personal art collection provides embellishments everywhere you look, including overhead, with 1,300 Perspex swallows swirling over diners at the Cape Malay-inspired Indochine restaurant. A second bistro celebrates contemporary South African cuisine and tutored tastings take place in a lounge that gives way to a terrace with spectacular views out over vineyards, stretching to Table Mountain and the Indian Ocean beyond. Even if you’re not there for the diamonds (which you’ll spy just by walking past the boutique), a tutored tasting accompanied by local cheeses, charcuterie and bread is a dazzling experience.
