In 1970, Luis Cañas decided that 200 years of tradition needed to change. With precious old vines in some of the best vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, he realised that it was time to stop selling grapes to others and start making wine himself. The winery he created and has left to his family is one with an enviable reputation for quality, with wines that neatly combine classicism with a modern twist.
