Wine Style
Pommery is delicacy and liveliness, heart and soul, a style made of finesse which plays a score focusing on the elegance of the aromas rather than on their strength.
L’Art du ChampagneWith an estate roughly the same size as the the Louvre and a penchant for hosting contemporary art exhibitions Maison Pommery is so much more than a wine destination. There are 18 kilometres of cellars that link 60 Gallo-Roman crayères (chalk pits) and a magnificent wide staircase with 116 steps to climb back to the earth’s surface and the winery. From the variety of grapes used, to the quality of the annual harvest, the selection of vintages for blends and time spent ageing in the cellar... there are many parameters and so much care, all add nuance to the flavours. Pommery operates according to a foundational principle: the selection of vintages that make up the blend, fused and aged over a long period of time in the cellar - and not the dosage - must be the source of the wines’ distinctive characteristics.
The winesBrut Royal blends together nearly forty different Champagne vintages. Millésimé is made from seven 100% Grands Crus. Cuvée Louise, the most refined vintage, is a blend of three of the most delicate Grands Crus.
Your visitThis well-known Champagne House has been hosting visitors since 1878 and is just 45 minutes by TGV train from Paris. The Villa Demoiselle fell into disrepair, but thanks to a collaboration between architects, cabinet makers and decorators this Art Nouveau cum Art Deco residence is once again resplendent. Maison Pommery has been a major player in the world of arts since its creation. To stay faithful to the memory and will of Madame Pommery, Paul-François Vranken has chosen contemporary art as the main thrust of his patronage and the Estate hosts an outstanding collection of major Art Nouveau works as well as regular modern art and sculpture exhibitions. Visit the 18km of chalk cellars which preserve the humidity in the summer and maintain their heat in the winter - chalk is a perfect temperature regulator: with a constant temperature of 10 °C, ideal for the storing and ageing wines.
