Elegant country living
A secluded countryside haven awaits in the Var region of Provence, close to the glamorous Riviera. Set in nearly 1,000 hectares of forest, the Château de Berne estate boasts olive groves, bee hives, tennis courts, pétanque courts and 174 hectares of vineyards hosting yoga classes as well as the grapes that go into its white, red and rosé wines.

At the hotel, the vinotherapy spa’s extensive menu uses products by Vinésime and Cinq Mondes, providing heavenly relaxation after exploring vast grounds, which can be traversed on foot (with 100 metres of hiking trails) or mountain bike (routes vary in difficulty). Electric bikes can take you into the nearby villages whilst, back at base, a gym, table tennis and swimming pools will keep you busy.

Sustenance is Michelin starred, the estate’s own garden providing much of the culinary inspiration for Le Jardin de Berne, where you’ll experience surprising and spirited pairings with the wines, all inspired by the stunning surroundings. Elsewhere there is Le Bistro, which holds a Bib Gourmand, a terrace restaurant overlooking the vines, and a pool bar. For special occasions, an exclusive chef’s table can welcome a maximum of eight guests, whilst budding chefs can try weekly cookery classes.

Your visit
Overnight guests stay in the 34-roomed five-star hotel, where pets are also welcome. Part of the Relais & Châteaux group, it is decorated in a traditional yet contemporary style, with light colours, airy spaces and a focus on luxury. For greater privacy, there are two villas and a seven-bedroom château featuring its own swimming pool, pool house, cinema room, piano and more.

The wines
The quintessentially pale hue of these Provençal rosés is achieved by harvesting the grapes in the cool of the night and guiding them gently through the winery, just a hint of oak used during maturation for depth. The full range of wines can be tasted during guided tours of the cellars by the sommelier team, with bespoke options including vertical tastings and food pairings.
