South America's Napa Valley: Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, is surely South America's answer to Napa Valley. Cuyo derives the word 'cuyum', meaning sandy earth – an apt description for the alluvial terrain that covers the flat valley floor and where Paul Hobbs built his sleek, glass and concrete winery in 1998. Two decades before, Hobbs had been one of the inaugural Opus One winemaking team, then he fledged into a global, pioneering winemaker – one who has played a pivotal role in transforming Mendoza into a world-class wine region.
Paul Hobbs: Raised on the family farm in New York state, Paul Hobbs combines experience with an innovative scientific approach (he is a Bachelor of Science, Chemistry) to refine the art of winemaking. With limited resources, no estate vineyards, but a clear vision and unwavering determination, his South American journey began. His goal was as ambitious as it was inspiring: to place Argentina firmly on the global wine map elevating Malbec to the pinnacle of international quality. Today, Viña Cobos stands as the embodiment of that dream; its modern underground cellar houses each and every vintage bearing witness to his unwavering commitment of 25 years.
A stone's throw from Mendoza city: Just 20km from Mendoza city, Viña Cobos makes a perfect day out. There are four exclusive experiences, each with a distinct focus. The hour and a half tour leads small groups of up to eight guests through a journey that includes the winery and surrounding vineyards and concludes with a thoughtfully curated tasting. Guests can enjoy a selection of the wines paired with bites to eat prepared by lead chef Sebastián Weigandt. Each experience is designed to highlight quality, luxury and harmony, offering an authentic moment to capture the true essence of Viña Cobos.
Luxury in Chañares: The Chañares vineyard is located high in the Uco Valley. A small tourism centre nestled within Viña Cobos' most iconic vineyard is an exclusive and special space. Here there is an immersive 360° experience for select groups combining gastronomy, tastings and guided vineyard tours. This is an all-encompassing offering where landscape, wine and terroir identity combine to create a memorable and moving moment.
