Cheval des Andes
Mendoza, Argentina
A unique Franco-Argentine alliance, Cheval des Andes tells the honest story of the Malbec grape by applying French expertise to vines planted in the foothills of the Andes in 1929 that have the luxury of remaining untouched by the disease that ravaged Europe’s vineyards in the Nineteenth Century – phylloxera. In 1999, Château Cheval Blanc of Bordeaux and Luján de Cuyo’s Terrazas de Los Andes teamed up to produce what is dubbed a New World ‘grand cru,’ and visitors to the smart winery can sample this Bordeaux-inspired blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot whilst dining at the restaurant, simultaneously lapping up the mountain landscape and neighbouring polo field. Advanced booking is essential.
