Matervini
Mendoza, Argentina
Named after the Latin for “mother of wine,” this is Argentina’s first fully solar-powered winery and devoted entirely to the country’s most famous grape, Malbec. Created by two esteemed winemakers in 2008, the Matervini range now includes six expressions of Malbec from different types of soil, exhibiting the nuanced geology of these Andean foothills with purity and pride. The glass-fronted, airy winery is scattered with colourful murals (from the exterior walls to the concrete eggs used to age the wines) and tours incorporate the vines, production area and barrel rooms before a tasting complemented by mountain and vineyard views. If you don’t want the experience to end, then an exclusive three-roomed guesthouse awaits.
