Wine Style

Predominantly red wines, but also white and rosé. Ysios disrupts as a modern force, skilfully highlighting the prominence of the fruit whilst expressing their unique terroirs.

Two Gods in One

Bodegas Ysios takes its name from two Egyptian deities, Isis and Osiris. Osiris, the god of vegetation and agriculture, symbolises the vitality of the earth, while Isis represents the creative and fertile force of nature. Based in the very heart of Rioja Alavesa and nestled at the base of the majestic Sierra de Cantabria, this avant-garde boutique winery fuses Rioja’s winemaking tradition with a revolutionary mindset. Designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, and inaugurated in 2001, its unmistakable design is an architectural landmark. The building stands out from afar with its shiny profile of metallic undulations that shimmer on the horizon, simulating the silhouette of a duck in flight.

Your visit

Discover unforgettable moments and embark on an oenological journey through the exceptional wines and vineyards of one of the most impressive wineries in Rioja Alavesa. Be in no rush - take the electric wine buggy and lose yourself in the vineyards of Ysios. Tradition meets innovation in the winery - continue your journey in the barrel room and finish in the Laguardia Lounge, the perfect place to enjoy a 360º tasting experience (complemented by delectable Iberian appetisers) with picturesque views of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. Bodegas Ysios also offers various tasting and tour experiences, ranging from basic wine tastings to comprehensive sessions that include older vintages and limited-edition wines.

The wines

Ysios’ portfolio includes single vineyard wines such as Las Naves which comes from a 1.1 hectare field blend of pre-phylloxera dry-farmed bush vines cultivated in sandy-clay soils. Tempranillo is the primary variety, along with a small percentage of Garnacha, Graciano, and Viura. Everything is harvested and fermented together, mirroring traditional practices, to capture an authentic expression of this unique terroir. El Nogal (the walnut tree) is a blend from a 1964 vineyard on clay-limestone and marine fossil soils. Deeply coloured and impressive in its concentration. These wines are symphonies of flavours, show-casing the historical expertise of Rioja at its very best.
