Red, white, rosé and sparkling wines

Based in Haro, in the heart of Rioja, Bodegas Muga continues the proud traditions of this emblematic Spanish region. Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, the winery remains a family-run business. Its 25,000 square-metre winery in the historic Barrio de La Estación (Station Quarter) of the town combines traditional winemaking methods with the most cutting-edge technology.

Rioja benefits from three distinct climatic influences, coming from the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean and a continental one. These competing influences create the perfect conditions for winemaking and an ideal home for the region's traditional grape varieties, such as Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano. Bodegas Muga owns vineyards in several key locations across Rioja, each benefitting to a greater or lesser extent from each of these influences, as well as different terroirs and altitudes. This allows it to grow varieties in locations that suit them best – adding to the quality of the wines they produce – but also allowing different expressions from each variety, that can be combined in the final blend for added complexity. From these exceptional terroirs, Muga produces its award-winning range, which includes sparkling Cava, white, rosé and long-lived red wines such as Prado Enea Gran Reserva. Emphasising its commitment to quality, Muga is the only estate in the region to make the barrels for ageing its wines.

Bodegas Muga offers a wide array of fun and educational activities for wine lovers to enjoy. Tours of the winery and cooperage with a tasting of three wines are offered every day from Monday to Saturday. True oenophiles can upgrade their visit to include an in-depth look at the entire region as well as an introductory course to tasting and appreciating wine. For pure enjoyment after all that learning, Bodegas Muga also offers guests the chance to relax in comfort at its wine bar or experience the best of Riojan cuisine at its restaurant. Visitors can arrange an additional tour of the vineyards by Segway, which takes you through different plots to learn about the importance of location and soil type before heading back to the winery to continue the visit. However, for a truly unforgettable experience, visitors can arrange to be picked up and flown to the winery by hot air balloon, soaring over the hills and vineyards before arriving at the winery in time for a tour – and perhaps a spot of lunch. The perfect way to experience the stunning landscape of Rioja.
