Susana Balbo

Mendoza, Argentina

Susana Balbo became Argentina’s first woman to graduate as a winemaker in 1981 and her eponymous winery, established in 1999, is a homely gastronomic haven where menus cater for the whole family, children included. Osadía de Crear restaurant serves a selection of paired tasting menus featuring locally sourced seasonal produce, plus brunch and afternoon tea on certain days. The Asado Argentino puts on a barbecue display at weekends, and you can also pick up blankets and pillows to go and savour some wine, finger food and wine ice cream (yes, wine ice cream!) out in the grounds. The multiple tour options all include tastings, with the Food and Wine option giving a sommelier-style deep dive into flavour combinations, the Blend-Art Experience getting you mixing your own wine from single grape varietals, and the cookery classes introducing you to the nuances of cooking with fire.
