A Cape idyll
They really know how to do idyllic landscapes in the Cape Winelands. South Africa’s leading wine, hospitality and art destination, Delaire Graff Estate – aka ‘the Jewel’ of said Winelands – is almost too perfect. Situated under the peak of the Botmaskop mountain between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, the estate boasts unparalleled views of the Banghoek Valley, Stellenbosch vineyards and Table Mountain – and plenty more besides.

24-carat quality
Luxury is ‘as standard’ at this pristine estate, as befits an owner who made his fortune in diamonds. As well as being home to Laurence Graff’s personal villa, the property benefits from some positively presidential guest lodges, two outstanding restaurants, a destination spa, various luxury boutiques and – of course – a state-of-the-art winery run by talented winemaker Morné Vrey. The estate’s hybrid architecture, sculpture gardens and opulent décor also provide a magnificent indoor and outdoor gallery to showcase artworks from Laurence Graff’s personal collection, representing some of South Africa’s finest contemporary artists, including Deborah Bell, Dylan Lewis, Lionel Smit, Kendell Geers, Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi and William Kentridge.

The art of relaxation
The Delaire Graff Wine Lounge is a welcoming art-filled tasting space and relaxing retreat in which to enjoy a glass or three of Delaire Graff wines with a leisurely guided tasting. Cellar tours of the gravity-fed winery are also available. Of the two restaurants, Indochine is definitely worth a reservation, offering as it does a dazzling and sophisticated Asian-influenced dining experience combined with Delaire Graff’s unimpeachable range of wines. Guests can also pass their time browsing the estate’s swish jewellery and luxury watch boutiques.
